Notes from Charlotte County, Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – Feb. 12, 2010 – Some real estate agents become upset when an offer comes in that is less than the full asking price, but experts remind them that the property is not theirs and they should not become emotionally involved in transactions. Likewise, buyer’s agents may mistakenly believe that insulting the listing agents and the property will help them win a better deal for their clients.

Agents who raise their voices, engage in bullying, and otherwise act out, create uncomfortable situations; and those who deem low offers an insult and refuse to present them to sellers could generate legal problems. Agents with negative attitudes who are disagreeable may also find that other realty professionals do not want to work with them, and they could lose deals, and income, based on their reputation.

Experts urge practitioners to behave in a professional manner, which involves, among other protocols, thanking agents for an offer, presenting the facts about the local market, abiding by all Florida real estate laws, acting in the client’s best interests, presenting all offers, remaining objective, seeking advice as necessary and avoiding insults.
