Code Red Emergency Alert System
May 11th, 2007 10:51 AM

Punta Gorda Code Red Program

The City of Punta Gorda has established a Code Red Emergency Alert System for all city residents.

The system is similar to 911, except that it calls you. The system will allow the City of Punta Gorda to call targeted areas or the community in case of an emergency or urgent situations that requires immediate attention. Examples are natural disasters (Hurricane warnings/watches, fires), man-made disasters (terrorism, chemical spills, gas leaks), search and rescue (missing children, adults or disabled persons), crime (prisoner escape warnings, sexual offender/predator alerts), as well as other emergency situations.

This is an invaluable service which is free of charge. The easiest way to subscribe to the service is on-line.  Use the following Internet LINK to access the City of Punta Gorda's Policy Department CODE RED registration system:

Florida Scrub Jay
May 9th, 2007 11:34 AM

Florida Scrub Jay

Don’t let the Florida Scrub Jay ruin your day! The habitat of this protected ground-dwelling bird has cast a desirability shadow over the property of many in Charlotte County. Although to some this (and other) environmental challenges seem insurmountable, the fact is that per the local representative of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, NO landowners has been denied a building permit as a result of the Scrub Jay. Did they need to jump through a few extra hoops, you bet – but with proper guidance this need not be a painful or expensive process.

Joe Vidulich, a local environmental consultant who specializes in Florida Scrub Jay surveys, can be an invaluable resource for those who desire to develop and/or sell their Scrub Jay protected and/or environmentally sensitive property. Joe has been doing this work for many years and truly cares about the needs of the property owner and in fact all of those who live here, both human and otherwise. He will even do a “drive-by” and give you his impressions of your particular property situation. Although we are talking specifically about the Scrub Jay here, Joe does other environmental surveys as well.

Joe’s website is posted below; take a look or give him a call.
